McNulty Family History
Recorded in many forms including MacNulty, McNulty, MacAnulty, McAnalty, McConnulty, McInility, and possibly others, this is a surname of Irish origins. It is derived from the pre 10th century aelic Mac an Ultaigh meaning the "son of the Ulsterman", a regional locational name. Curously there does not appear to be any similar name for the provinces of Munster, Leinster and Connaught. The clan belongs today as they have done since the inception of surnames, to County Donegal in north-west Ulster, which claims to be the most Irish part of Ireland. The surname dates back to the late 13th Century (see below), and early recordings include the occasion in 1431 when O'Donnells are recorded in the Annals of the Four Masters as making a predatory expedition against the Mac Nultys of Tirhugh, County Donegal...Select Audience

Margaret McNulty born 1906-1907 died 1953-1954 born in Ireland

Hugh McNulty born 1820 in Co Donegal. Served in English Army (family lore). Married Isabel Tracy of Co Fermanagh in 1851. Had daughter Susan in 1852. Then two sons both died as infants (one named John). Immigrated to USA in 1866 and settled in McHenry County, Illinois. Both Hugh and Isabel were illiterate.
Where did Hugh come from? A parish would be great. Did Hugh have any siblings? If yes, did any of them emigrate? Was he in the English Army? Where? When?
